Families of Freedom 9/11 Scholarship Fund
Tuesday, March 29th, 2011Description:
The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund announced on September 9 that it will provide $8.4 million in needs-based postsecondary scholarships to 520 eligible members of the 9/11 community for the 2009-2010 academic year. More than $4.2 million has been distributed for the September 2009 semester; the remaining half will be dispersed in December for the semester beginning January 2010. Since the first awards in January 2002, the Families of Freedom Fund will, with this year’s awards, have distributed more than $46.6 million to approximately 1,400 individuals.

$20,000 Scholarship Contest

Open to high school seniors in the United States
Scholarship payable to the winner’s college/university or certified trade school in the United States; student must enroll in semester beginning no later than fall 2011.
Winners not based on financial need
Relatives of AFSA staff or board members may not enter.
Home-schooled students may apply as long as your course of study is equivalent to that of a senior in high school.

Architecture and Drafting Degrees — Undergraduate Academic Award
Friday, March 25th, 2011Description:
A $500 award will be given to a student pursuing an associate or bachelor degree program emphasizing Architecture, Architectural Drafting or Design, and Architectural Engineering.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident
- Must be enrolled (or accepted) in an accredited college or university and planning on continuing the next year.
- Graduating high school seniors who meet the above mentioned criteria may apply.
- Must have a minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours still to be completed.
- Must consent to provide a digital photograph of self and quote for display on Education-Portal.com if notified as the award winner by the selection committee.

2011 High School Essay Contest
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011Description:
First place winner will receive $1,000; second place winner will receive $750; and third place winner will receive $500. Each winning essay will be posted on The National WWII Museum’s website. Excerpts of the first place entry will also be printed in our quarterly newsletter V-Mail (which is mailed to more than 130,000 people across the United States). The top 50 essayists will receive honorable mention on our website.
