Ron Brown Scholar Program

Description:
The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card. Current college students are not eligible to apply.
Each year, a minimum of ten students will be designated Ron Brown Scholars and will receive $10,000 annually for four years, for a total of $40,000. The recipients may use the renewable scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States. Ron Brown Scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline. More than 250 students have been designated as Ron Brown Scholars since the inception of the Program.

British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association

The Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place at a UK university which is BUTEX affiliated. Your study abroad or exchange place must be for the academic year 2009/10 and your place must be for a minimum of one semester. If you are not sure whether your host institution is BUTEX affiliated, please see our List of BUTEX Members. Please note, if you are using an agent which has BUTEX Associate Membership status, you will still need to check that the University you hold your place with is BUTEX affiliated.
The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.

Minnesota High Tech Scholarship

The Minnesota High Tech Foundation will award $2,000 scholarships to undergraduate students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplines. Scholarships will be awarded to students from the University of Minnesota, students of MNSCU schools and students of Minnesota Private Colleges. Awards will be presented on October 22, 2009 during the Minnesota Tekne Awards, honoring companies, innovations and individuals that positively impact Minnesota’s technology-based economy.

USBC Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Scholarship Award

The Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Award annually recognizes star qualities in a male high school senior or college student who competes in the sport of bowling. Star qualities include distinguished certified bowling performances on local, regional, state and national levels, academic achievement and extra-curricular involvement. The award winner will receive a $6,000 scholarship. This scholarship will be formally presented at the annual USBC Convention. USBC will pay travel and hotel expenses for the winner and one guest to attend the award ceremony.

AFSCME Family Scholarship

Looking for financial support for college? Each year the AFSCME Family Scholarship Program provides at least 10 $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors that will be renewed for $2,000 each year for a maximum of four years, provided the student remains enrolled in a full-time course of study. The scholarship may be used for any field of study.

American Public Power Association (APPA)
Tuesday, July 14th, 2009Description:
DEED student research grants/internships support students studying in energy-related disciplines, increase awareness of career opportunities in public power, and provide assistance to DEED member utility sponsors. Each year up to ten, $4,000 student research grants and internships are awarded to students conducting research on an energy-related project. Students must be sponsored by a DEED member utility and are required to write an abstract and final report at the completion of the project.

NPC Lifeline Program
Monday, July 13th, 2009Description:
Individuals who have lost their jobs within the last six months can qualify for a one semester tuition and fee waiver through NPC. If it is determined that you are Federal Pell Grant eligible upon receipt of your FAFSA documentation you will be awarded the Federal Pell Grant and not the Lifeline Program.
NPC Foundation will provide a Textbook Scholarship as follows per enrollment:
Full-time (12+ credit hours) up to $500.00
Three-quarter-time (9-11.9 credit hours) up to $375.00
Half-time (6-8.9 credit hours) up to $250.00
Part-time (Less than 5.9 credit hours) up to $150.00

Lincoln Forum: Platt Family Essay Contest

Applicant must fulfill the following requirements:
Full-time student enrolled during spring 2009 semester/quarter
Submit an essay via regular mail or via e-mail of a minimum of 1,500 and a maximum of 5,000 words on the specified topic
*Note: You do not have to be an American citizen to apply, but need to be attending an American college or university. High school students are not eligible.
Award Amount:
1st prize: $1,000
2nd prize: $500
